The success of JK Cake Designs is thanks to the balance of skills each member of the duo brings to the business. Kim was a chef for 25 years who always had a passion for desserts and cakes which, combined with Joh’s background in customer service and experience teaching cake decorating at a local cooking school, has proven to be a recipe for success. The duo brings great balance to their business, each playing to their own strengths – with the added benefit that they really enjoy spending time together.

From the outset, both Joh and Kim placed a massive emphasis on customer service. With a shared vision of how they wanted to develop and nurture relationships with customers, the overriding goal has been to ensure they are responsive to requests and answer emails within a short time frame, or be available to chat with customers on the phone. As a result, the majority of feedback they receive is about the service and the quality of their product, which the ladies see as having equal value.

Kim’s speciality is novelty cakes and it’s in this area the challenges are often seen. Not only does she need to understand the character, setting or personality behind the original brief but it can take days of meticulous planning and experimentation in order to create the effect required. Joh’s area of expertise is in wedding cakes and she excels in creating elegant designs that are the perfect fit for a special day. A wedding cake is like no other cake in its importance and Joh takes pride in going above and beyond the brief to make an extraordinary cake for a unique occasion.
