Not just a dance form, but an expression of culture and tradition.

About Us

Sydney Nrityasagara School of Dance was established by Amesha Darshana with a mission of preserving and promoting Bharatanatyam for future generations. She holds a Master of Teaching (Primary) which she has leveraged to design a curriculum to help students achieve their individual goals and aspirations, whether they are pursuing dance as a hobby, arangetram or a professional career.

Amesha follows the lineage of her Guru, Anursha Tharmarajah, whose influence has shaped the curriculum of Nritysagara and Amesha as a Bharathanatyam teacher in Sydney.

Anursha Tharmarajah is the alumnus of the prestigious Kalakshetra School in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India and had the privilege of learning Bharathanatyam from Rukmani Devi Arundel during her time there. Having graduated from Kalakshetra with a First Class Diploma in Bharathanatyam, Veena, Classical Vocal Singing, she established Natyakshetra Dance School in 1975.

Amesha commenced her training under her Guru in Sri Lanka and continued under her after moving to Sydney. Amesha presented Natyakshetra Dance School’s first dance arangetram in 2005 in Sydney and she continues to learn under the guidance of her Guru, a period of time which has now extended over 30 years.
